My Process

My services involve evaluating a proposed project from a drawing or structure that needs transformation (remodel/refinish) and actualizing the proposal to a fine finished product. My process is to initially go out to a client’s site and have an overview meeting to understand what the goals of the project are. I need to understand the design concepts, materials needed, and consider how the work can be executed in the space. This meeting evaluates access to loading materials, dust evacuation, space restrictions, materials etc.

Timeline and budget are a major part of a project’s considerations. After looking at the options and taking notes, I will usually talk through a ballpark estimate following that up with a written estimate with details. These steps are flexible and sometimes the decision to utilize recycled wood or other custom materials will change the budget considerably. I do like to use repurposed wood if possible. The process of getting the correct old wood can take time which can also add to the budget.

My process is to develop a budget estimate and work within that number whenever possible. I do not use set bids. Old houses are usually not plumb or level and getting things to fit together properly can take unforeseen time. I work time and materials only. I bill for all time spent on site. I track shopping miles driven and charge by the mile as well as being on the clock when out purchasing materials for the project. I know what I need for your project and where to get it, and I have a van to haul it safely. I do not charge for use of my credit card purchases for under $400. Above $400 I charge a 15% fee on the materials total.

I use QuickBooks for billing and will send an invoice with all receipts attached including a breakout of days/ hours worked as well as what was accomplished. There is a 3% fee for the use of the QuickBooks system which will be added to your invoice. You can pay this Quick Books invoice as an online payment or I can take a check. My rate is $75 per hour. Prompt payment within 3 days of work completion is appreciated.
